Now You See it…

Now you don’t. Imagine having a room that is there when you want it, and hidden when you don’t. Although we can only see a sliver of this room, the tracks on the floor say it all….

I suspect this is one of a series of panels that slide out to create the illusion of a room and slide back to return it to wide open space. Clever thinking… This flexible floor plan is ideal for creating a multi-functional space, and although modern in concept, the style depends on the design of the panels – sleek and contemporary, traditional, or something in between.

A client of mine is considering this very thing for her den. Day to day it would be part of her living space, but slide the panels forward, and ta-da – instant den, office or guest room. This is absolutely perfect for NYC, the land of guests…

Overall I think it’s a brilliant plan, and the length of her hallway is an ideal place to hide the panels. Not that they need to be hidden….panels like these will no doubt be beautiful and grand in scale. I can't stop imagining the possibilities…

I think this would also be great for a studio apartment or any open room where you want privacy or want a wall. I could see it being used behind a sofa by day and opened at night to reveal the bedroom. I could also see it being backlit to create some romance when it's closed.
