Cabinets with a View

Windows in a kitchen are wonderful, well anywhere for that matter - the more the better. Bring in natural light and a pretty view, and cooking almost seems like a luxury…

In this kitchen, featured in Traditional Home, storage must have trumped an open view, but why not have both? These clever homeowners did just that. By placing cabinets over the windows you get that “being outside” feeling plus some display space and storage to boot.

I considered this for my kitchen, but the direct view was not pretty enough – an urban brick wall. Instead I mirrored cabinets on an adjacent wall to reflect the better view of the street. In much the same way as they have here, the net effect is a view of trees rather than cabinet doors and for me, the illusion of having windows where there are none.

Well let me tell you – it works like a charm…

I love this look. You can't really tell if it's over the window, or if it has a mirrored back. I adore glass front cabinets. They add so much personality to the kitchen. I have a small kitchen in my condo but the glass cabinet doors make it seem so much bigger and gives it a light feeling. Can't wait to see your new kitchen.

You may be right - it could be mirrored as well. I am always looking for ways to draw in light and make any space seem bigger. You have to here, and truly there is no better trick than mirror... I am excited just to finally have a kitchen and mostly a sink!
