Before Jumping In...

Everyone has their own way of making the bed and arranging the pillows, and no one can make your bed as well as you can. I always notice bed making in hotels, when staying with guests, and in design publications. But mostly I like to see the variations…

I have my favorites:

For a queen, I usually opt for 2 Euros in the back, a pair of standards in front and one king pillow in front of that. This arrangement is nicely balanced. But for my new space I'm going for a lower profile - two rows of standards in the back + a Euro front and center. Another great simple look - one long bolster, nothing more.

I also find it interesting that some people prop up their pillows, whereas others lay them flat and stack them. Me, I’m a pillow proper vs. a stacker, but either way figure out what works best for you and the style of your bed.

I’ve changed my mind over the years about a few things, starting with pillows. I like a simple look and prefer anthing that is quick and easy. Flanges for instance tend to droop and may need ironing. No time for that, so I opt for piping or nothing at all. Toss them on the bed and they look good no matter what.

Duvets
I no longer put them on top, but use them as a blanket under a coverlet. A duvet-as-blanket is much easier when it comes to making the bed, and gives the bed a crisper look.

Dust Skirts
My favorite style is an inverted pleat on each corner plus one on each side. I also really like an upholstered bed or nothing there if the bed frame is pretty. Sadly I can't do this as I need the space under it for storage.

The Routine
I love coming home to a made-bed, so for me it’s an every day thing. This started young, when my Mom put me front and center off the foyer. She had a reason for that - I was fairly neat. This was great training for my lifestyle today as in small spaces you almost have to make your bed. Fine by me – it takes about 2 minutes.

So this gets me thinking…do you have thoughts, tips, or personal favorites on making your bed? If so, please share…

I'm a proper propper myself; somehow stacked pillows just don't seem inviting enough.
I also can't imagine coming home to an unmade bed. Sometimes I actually start making the bed while still in it; pulling up all sheets, blankets, etc from inside and finishing all the flattening and neatening up once I slide outside of the sheets.

I never thought of that. I love it...

I also prop my pillows. I love the look of a lot of them though. I just don't like flat sheets, so I don't use one. I have fluffy comforter that I fold down to the foot of the bed at night. Then I use an old very loved quilt for my blanket, which is put out of sight during the day. In the morning I simply fold the comforter back up, plop on my propped pillows, and voile, bed made!

I agree on the flat sheet. I could lose it as well. It seems to get lost anyway.
