One Upping My Past...

I LOVED the wallpaper in my last bedroom. It was pure perfection day and night. The over-scale design was a contemporary damask pattern made from thousands of tiny reflective beads. It looked almost like iridescent sugar on the wall. I never tired of looking at it for an instant. In fact, I wish I could do it all over again…

One of my clients liked it so well, she wanted to look no further. Her full room is papered rather than just one wall. Even more amazing…

I have been looking for months to one-up my last paper - trust me, not an easy thing to do. This time around one of my options is a series of wavy stripes made up of small silver leaf metallic dots. The background is a pale blue so the room would be ice blue, silver, and white – all very soothing, calming colors.

The silver shimmers in the light, but seeing the shimmer depends on the angle the light hits. If I go this way I would need to chance it, as the light from the chandelier and the window control the amount of shimmer - what I am REALLY after. Another possibility, the pattern may fade in and out from the top to the bottom of the wall, or even side to side depending on the light. This could be interesting or then again, maybe not. If only it was not too late for supplemental recessed spot lights...

I currently have had a sample of this paper taped to the wall for months, and right now I’m sleeping under it to help me decide. Pretty, pretty…

If I pass this time, I'll pre-plan with the right lighting so it works in the next one. Because it's truly worth it...

I am amazed that you were willing to sell this apartment. Please tell me that who ever bought it was keeping everything as is. MB

I love how your blog breaks down the elements of design to the tiniest of details. It's wonderful to be able to "see" through your design eyes. So many priceless gems of ideas..

MaryBeth, I was with you: crushed that Kelly sold the other apt. But I was in the new apt today and can attest: Kelly's already "one-upped" herself: and not just with the wallpaper! "Stunning" was the word I kept repeating...

Thank you, I love the tiny details as they make things special.

I have not seen it since I left but once bare, it did not look the same. I took much of the personality with me, as they had the opportunity to buy the contents but did not. They should have - the curtains alone were wonderful.
