An Everyday Escape
I love ripple fold curtains. They hang from a track on the ceiling and cascade down, floating just above the floor, so elegant and simple. And even better – the hardware spaces the folds of fabric evenly apart every time. Always perfect and never any fussing…
I first saw them years ago in Asia de Cuba and again in the Delano and fell in love.. I was looking for a way to separate my bed from the living space in my studio - this was perfect. Creating in effect a separate little room, they functioned well for privacy and had that elegant Hollywood glamour appeal. Initially I planned for a simple one curtain screen, but then decided if I placed curtians on both sides, I could create a canopy.
There were 2 panels on each side that moved freely on the track. A chandelier hung inside front and center, reflected by the mirror behind. When the curtains were closed you were in a tent-like oasis. It felt so wonderful to sleep and wake up there, like staying in one of those exotic travel destination hotels. SPA-like and peaceful, I absolutely loved it. The curtain canopy worked so well there because the ceilings were very high and the room large and open. You need that for this to work.
I still miss my sleeping tent and plan to recreate it again somewhere someday. If you are lucky enough to have the room – I say go ahead and do. Trust me, you’ll feel like you’re on vacation every night of the week, well up until the alarm rings…

I've always loved your studio (when I saw it on SSBS) and that bed was amazing. I love the curtains and the mirror on the wall behind the chandelier made it spectacular. Feminine, romantic, glamourous with a bit of sparkle; it doesn't get much better than that. I didn't know what the curtains were called so I appreciate the information. I always love fabric in the bedroom, it gives a bit of softness to the room.
You have such wonderful ideas.
That is so beautiful! I love the color of the wood floors w/ the cream. I also love all the skirts on the pieces of furniture. This image is so romantic.
Thank you both. It is hard to believe you could actually live well in such a tiny space but it was wonderful... I love having a little more space though for all those things I keep collecting...
Kelly, this space is what made me fall in love with your style! I live in a small space, and your studio has been a real inspiration to me. I can't wait to see your new place!!
I remember the first time I saw this picture in print, I tore it out as it was my ideal room in so many ways. It is one of those images that is embedded in my mind that just makes me smile. I want this room one day, I wonder how many rooms out there you have inspired?
