Chair Envy...

I spotted this vintage chair online and was stalking it for over a year. Every now and again I would drop in for a visit and contemplate where I would put it. I loved the curved front, the low stature and channel back. The price unfinished was extremely expensive at $1800 and it needed to be shipped from the West Coast. Crazy but I still could not stop thinking about it.
One day I stumbled across the same chair at auction. With 2 minutes to spare I snapped it up for $125. I was meant to have it.

In looking through the Book, In The Pink, about the life and style of Dorothy Draper, I saw my chair again. It was one of several she designed for the lobby of a well known San Francisco Hotel. Was she as smitten as I was? I think so - there was also a settee. I am on the look out for that too.

The chair I originally stalked is in blue and my bargain chair below in creme. Fast forward... You can see the chair now as it sits in the corner of my bedroom - just love it. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and pay more for something you really want and other times you get lucky and things find you. Gotta love when that happens...

Oh, I did the same thing with a crystal floor lamp I saw in a magazine. I cut it out and kept it in a file. When my sister died, I walked in her home and happened upon a lamp nearly identical to the one I saw. I could not believe my eyes. It had a longer shade on it but I have since replaced the shade and love it. It means even more to have something of hers that I can see every day.
