Faux Arching It...

I Love the look of arched doors and windows, but you technically don’t need a real arch to create the feeling of one....

Look here. I’ve seen this done before, as recently as last weekend on HGTV’s House Hunters International. BTW I find that show entertaining, especially the European episodes. Paris… The other day they featured an estate condition apartment that was wayyyy too much work for the buyer. I would have been thrilled - chevron wood floors, curved doors, plaster detailing, mantles, iron balconies… EVERYTHING was there. It was a dream come true fixer-upper in my book. Imagine the salvage yards over there - they must be amazing…

PS: I got a kick out of the buyers reactions was the sizes of the rooms in Paris, which appeared on par with what you see here in New York. Note to self: I would be well conditioned to live in Paris, if only I spoke French…

OK, back on track – arches. Many windows in older buildings are arched slightly on the exterior, yet finished inside as rectangles - so why not do the reverse? Although it seems counter intuitive to do, this would be no square peg in a round hole. BTW curving plaster is a love of mine, or should I say my contractors, so I’ll try this for sure eventually…

Seriously clever idea! I with you that would all be a dream fixer upper!
