The Hidden Door...

This week I’m on a door kick. Today the non-door or hidden door variety…

Commonplace in sprawling old world apartments and mansions where house staff traveled between rooms inconspicuously, hidden doors were part of the culture along with butlers, maids, butler’s pantries and dumbwaiters. I would love any one of these today…

A hidden door is designed to be plain, blending into the wall or disappearing all together. Wood baseboard continues across the bottom and they typically lack any ornamentation. Fancier ones are integrated into wood raised paneling – the secret door variety. So cool… Who wouldn’t want one – adults and children alike?

What better way to hide a door today than with wallpaper, a pivot hinge, and some baseboard? Here’s one – hidden closets, well almost, minus the give-away knob….
