Unexpected Change in Plans…

My contractor hung my new bedroom light fixture and it’s great - a giant starburst that looks like a modern snowflake in glass. I bought it when I was moving out of my last apartment, and I had not even opened the box until now...

It had been on my wish list for years - a big personality at 28 inches wide. BUT not until I started unwrapping the pieces did I realize how heavy it is.

A combination of glass rods in 2 sizes, it requires some thinking to create the right balance. My friend Gabrielle helped get it together - one of us on the ladder screwing in the rods, while the other decided where the next one would go. After the last one went in, we flipped the switch, and wow. I was on cloud 9 for hours…

I’ve always had a chandelier hanging over my bed, but nothing quite like this. Looking up at the shape pointing down and considering the weight, I got nervous. If it falls on me, I’m scared - loss of life, chandelier, both? I couldn’t sleep, so I moved the bed. I can't do this every night, so I quickly realized I needed a Plan B...

Soooo what about the feather ball chandelier I've wanted for years? Literally as light as feathers, it's a perfect Plan B... Reality check - it's not in the budget. BUT there was a silver lining... Moving the bed opened up the room and looks great. It’s staying that way for good.

Well say hello to the real Plan B...a chandelier handmade from individual old crystal pieces. I went to the shop to choose the exact style and pieces I wanted - so much fun. The design is everything- bubble balls and chunky bagettes with less danglies makes it modern. No granny chandelier here...

I can't wait to see it come together, and the best? Sleep without fear...

The hardest thing for me about this change is mental - in my mind the starburst has always been hanging in my bedroom and I’ve seen it - lovely. But sometimes you have to make an unexpected change in plans – and this is one of those times.

Suffering for fashion or style on occasion, yes we all do it, but I draw the line here…

Ha, ha what a nightmare worrying about being impailed all night. I am a firm believer in things happening for a reason. Your Plan B will no doubt be perfect!
