Virtual Square Footage...

I've pretty much mastered every trick in the book for making small spaces seem larger than they are. It's all about how you feel when you're in them. As long as a room seems larger, it really doesn't matter how big it is...

Anything that draws your eye up works - tall doors, over scale art, long curtains, substantial moldings, low hanging lighting.

Another list topper is reflective surfaces - they do wonders. For furniture, keep it low and up off the floor, and avoid over crowding.

Monochromatic color schemes also work, but one of my favorite tricks is adding new openings between rooms - interior windows and doors. They allow light to travel and create views from blank walls. This requires some messy demolition, yes, but it's one of the best ways I've found to create "virtual square footage".

Well until this...wallpaper murals that trick you into believing there's more than meets your eye - no renovation or demolition needed.

OK THIS is creative... So cheers to another clever way to fool perception, courtesy of another personal favorite, Vogue Living.
