Rolling With It....

I’m not sure who coined the phrase “roll with it”. My guess - a renovator. Honestly the ability to do this is a necessity if you plan to do this stuff, sometimes daily….

The latest roll with it incident occurred when my upper cabinets didn’t fit into the elevator. Our elevators are small, and we have no service elevator. Plan B was scheduled for the next day – 4 guys walking them up the steps. OK, what's one more day?

Plab B was also a bust. Now we're talking days - many...

It’s hard to stay calm, but I’ve worked with these guys for a while now, and they will come through. BUT it’s hard not to be disappointed. I was REALLY excited to see my cabinets in the apartment, and I'm over takeout and drinks from the newstand..

But truthfully this kind of thing just happens, and I say this because not everyone knows how to roll with it – trust me. Some days remaining calm is harder than others, and it's never easy, but I've had years of practice. I love watching design shows where they actually show these types of incidents, because that’s the real reality TV.

But the silver lining that is keeping me happy for a little is what I did get to see…

The lower cabinets and the upper doors did made it in, and they're just what I wanted - absolutely beautiful. I tried some new things when designing this kitchen, and I was able to see instantly – LOVE it. This kitchen has personality and soul already and it’s only ½ way there. Bring on the other half...

Soooo in the overall scheme of things, hey, what’s another day or two – nothing a scoop of Haagen Dazs Rum Raisin can’t distract me through - no kitchen necessary...

PS: The expression on this dog says it all. Catching it on camera, priceless...

It's also hard when you're the designer and not the client, to roll with it! No one likes the schedule being thrown off track, but it happens so often...

Can't wait to see this new place!

I am so not a roll with it kind of person especially when someone should have known better or not promise they can do something when they know they can't. I am talking about contractors! But in the end getting mad or angry gets you nowhere. When all is said and done you still have the same problem you had before you total lost it. I just have to work on it. Can't wait to see more pictures of the new place.

It's hard but even more so you're roughing it. I really think they forget how you're living and how delays in having a normal life impacts your day to day. I'm counting the days...

LOl @ the dog. And I'm sure we haven't half the idea of how frustrating things really are. But I am dying to see how your new kitchen is going to look!
