An Unlikely Match

I found this cute little chair at a vintage shop. The original fabric was crazy but the condition of the chair was like new, and the quality was there - it weighs a ton. What I really wanted however was something that would look stylish and function like a recliner.

With that in mind I set out to find a small mod ottoman to put my feet on. The legs of the chair are narrow, and tapered, so I decided to start there. In my search I ran acoss this little round mid century ottoman with the same legs - jackpot.

Two pieces that complement one another style-wise plus coordinating upholstery = a perfect pair. The fabric also helps to bring them together. The design is contemporary and the repeating circles pick up the shape of the stool and the curve of the chair.

If I didn’t know better I would believe these two belonged together from the start - a perfect pair from what started out as an unlikely match.

Wow, Kelly, it looks beautiful! You really have to look twice to see that they aren't a dead on match.

What I like most about this is that it looks soft and feminine. I am not a huge fan of mid century modern, mainly because it's just too masculine for my personal taste, but with this color and fabric, it brings out the best of the mid century modern (the clean lines)in a more feminine way.

Aside from that, I love having an ottoman that is still nice and not so big. I'd love to have this piece in my living room and it looks perfect with the colors in the photograph. Instead, I recently had to get a rather large recliner for my severely disabled son-he needed one with a lot of support since he is losing his ability to sit up. It's good in that in meets his needs but I'd never choose something like that otherwise.

Great job!

I did not use to be a fan of modern anything but have fallen for the girly curves of the furniture in this era. I also love that it sits low and makes the space appear bigger. But sometimes function is wayyyyyy more important, as is the case with the recliner you bought for your son. A pretty pillow and a throw and it will fit in your room just fine.

I love your blog! I just recently subscribed and came across this post. I have a chair just like yours, mine is also a swivel chair. It currently has a vintage green with gold flecks fabric and I've been dying to get it recovered. Who is this fabric made by that you used? I love it and have been looking for something just like it.
