Well I'm at it again. I just signed the contracts to sell my current space and buy another. The good news is I don’t have far to go... This one is a short elevator ride downstairs - my third renovation here. The first two were on the same hall, but this one takes me to another floor for a whole new vantage point on NYC life. When I tell people I am moving to the second floor I get "that look" followed by but why would you do that? I had the same thought until I walked through the door….
I went looking on a whim with a friend who was considering buying, and the minute I saw it I knew... The market drop in combination with low interest rates made this the perfect time to buy, but I had to sell my apartment first. As luck would have it, the amount to work it needed was too much for my friend, so put my place on the market and things started to happen...
The ceilings on the 2nd floor in this building are higher and the windows bigger. Size does matter! The ceiling is over 11 feet high, and the front windows start at the floor and go up 10 feet. This gives the space a lofty feel. The outside view is fun to look at – small boutiques, restaurants and an art gallery. At night their windows glow and trees sparkle with white lights. Iron balconies leave a place for window boxes and just below me is a hint of urban pink neon. You can see the word “Liquor” for blocks, so thankfully I will always know when I am close to home.
People ask me all the time if the new space will be the same as this one. Somewhat yes, as I plan to take some things with me, but also no, as the bones I create are always different. Hunting for salvaged history and character is my favorite part as you never quite know what you'll find. I already have a stockpile in storage, and more in closets and under my bed. Right now I am stalking my favorite shops looking for what I consider the key pieces - doors, windows, lighting and mantles. I am also scouting for all things shiny and new - tiles, moldings, fixtures, and wallpaper. I have a lot of work ahead of me but in my mind, I already see it done…

I can't wait to see what I run across. I have a limited amount of time before the work starts so I have a lot of finding to do. My newest pieces - several great over door friezes from a paneled room on Park Avenue. They are absolutely beautiful...
