New York Magazine’s Home Edition just hit the news stands and this space caught my attention. Formerly a YMCA, this space is now an amazing family Home. Wow, look at this great open floor plan, miles away from the norm here in NYC.
Can you say lucky?
I’m always intrigued by commercial turned residential projects. You start with a clean slate and design exactly what you want from the ground up. The best part is the architecture. Great bones are always the best starting point to inspire design - the tall arched windows and super high ceilings alone are to Die for. And the beams…
I’m always a fan of the open kitchen, and this layout which at a glance looks minimal is so expansive that not having upper storage is not a problem. And look at all this counter space. It’s a cook’s dream, never mind the incredible bar seating for who knows how many. 15? And that’s not all. The cherry on top is unseen here – a very large banquette out to the left side which is perfect for everyday or for entertaining. OK, enough said. I’m in Love…
I would love to take a crack a commercial-residential conversion like this one day… I bet it would be a lot of fun, but even better, imagine living here. Dreams of transformative renovations do not get better than this…
Hmmm…if only I could expand into the Liquor Store downstairs, the possibilities would be endless…

I saw this and loved it too, especially the (hidden) banquette. It must be a great space at night. And you know that I'm also eying the stairs for ideas...
I bet - can't wait to see what you choose...
Great post. I hope you can write more good stuff like this article.
