Silver Lining...

One thing I have learned with renovations is that timing is everything - in this case not in my favor. My floors arrived over a month late which threw me off schedule. The consequence – my sublet expired and I had to move into another temporary space.

Frustrating, yes, BUT there is a silver lining to all of this…

The new place I am staying in is also in my building on a high floor facing the Planetarium at the Museum of Natural History, Central Park, and the New York City skyline. The living room is all windows, so the view is everywhere you turn - wow. I have wanted this view since the first day I moved in, so staying here is a fun distraction. In fact I woke up in the middle of the night and got up just to look out.

The view is pretty during the day and absolutely magical at night. The white lit snowflakes at street level are up around the museum. These along with bunches of Christmas trees and the red glow of tail lights from traffic are picture perfect images of NYC at the holidays. And who could talk about the view without mentioning the giant ball of the planetarium at stage left. It looks like a big blue balloon - which brings me to this…

I saw this balloon Dior Ad for Miss Dior Cherie and loved it so much I added it to my save file. I feel a little like her right now - trying to stay grounded but on a high settling in for a few weeks above everything…dreaming of another renovation someplace wonderful like this…

Sounds like a beautiful view. It might be nice to take some pictures and frame them for your new apartment. That way, the view lives on forever.

My mother lives in Chicago and for many years (she moved last year to a different place) had a spectacular view of the city-she had Lake Michigan, the traffic from Lake Shore Drive below and then a magnificent view of the Millenium Park and Buckingham Fountain. The Yacht Club on the lake provided spectacular summer views with the lake changing color every day. I could sit there for hours on her balcony overlooking the city. And at night, simply magical.

Do you have a date when the renovations will be done?

Great idea! I will take pictures. It is fun to just sit and see what is going on below and great entertainment when talking on the phone. There is a dog run across the street so that cute to watch. Last year the museum had an ice rink - sad I missed that.

I wish I had a completion date for the renovation. It is always hard to pinpoint as things pop up that push the plan back - this time my floors. And then after that, the decorating starts which can also take a while. I am always happy for that though as it is a fun replacement for all the dust and dirt.
